MACVIM COMMAND LINE HOW TO

Neovim looks like a mini-project just to find the color-module libraries, let alone view-testing them or setting them. In MacVim I can browse and reset in a few seconds. vimr appears to barf on it, no matter how many different incantations of vimr I try, at least so far. In short: why was portability (from vi/vim/MacVim) not a valued goal for the Neovim effort? vimrc/.gvimrc settings are breaking Neovim. Why did Neovim have to redefine a whole new config-file hiearchy and settings language? I spent decades compiling vi/vim stuff, and now it appears I have to retest everything, because many (most? it's hard to tell) of my.Are there any excellent "introduction to Neovim for seasoned vi/vim/MacVIM-ers" documentation resources?.Differentiate between all the Neovim-ish apps/things?
